Shantanu • Brand • Finale

The best way to start the new year ≤ get a new symbol! I have been working on this one for quite some time and finalized on this form just a few days ago after a long rejection process. (I will upload the alternative option, that was rejected, soon)

Why the transition?, you may ask. Well, I was just simply bored and wanted to give it a new look. The godat99 symbol now seemed old and I wanted to do something with my initials. Hence I chose this abstract form of a 'SS' ambigram. Its clean, simple and like someone close pointed out: has a higher recall value.

So this is what the construction looks like (click on the image to get a larger view). The basic idea, as I mentioned earlier, was to create an abstract form of 'SS'. I chose a geometric approach and hence used a sturdy grid that encompassed the symbol comfortably in a circle to give it proper balance.

I hope this symbol brings me luck in this year and the years to come. I hope you guys liked the symbol. Any comments/feedback is welcome.

Thank you :)

Shantanu • Brand • Now • Part Two

This is what the guides for the final symbol look like. The construction is very symmetric. I missed how I enjoyed working on Illustrator and working on the tiniest of refinements. But I guess I needed to to take a break to miss it and enjoy it again :)

More to come soon. I'll upload the final and the alternate as well in the next few days.

Shantanu • Brand • Now • Part One

I have been in hibernation mode for sometime now. Nothing else to do apart from the daily gym visits and cinephile activities I thought of using my time to work on a symbol for godat99 which has been my 'alter ego' on various forums for quite some time.

Its a work in progress. I will upload the final symbol soon.

All Music is Beautiful ~ or so I have been told.

Another late upload. Another shot at a design contest! Although by the time you read this, the date for submissions is over.

The theme was very interesting. That of music. The constraint was that it should be in single color. So I tried something new, that is, cursive-decorative typography Kriti Monga is well known for. Mine is a very lame and modest attempt to imitate her style. But an attempt none the less.

PDF: Blast From the Past!

Old. Very Old. One of the images from Vriti's Post Diploma Display. I still remember the cinnamon coffee on a rainy day at Vriti's apartment in Ahmedabad.

FKP: The Document

This is the document of my first classroom project. Its been ages since it was completed but never got to uploading it here on the blog.

I consider this document to be a very helpful in my learning process as a graphic design student and made me look at branding in a different perspective.

Go ahead, have a look.

The blogger is back and blogging!

Its been ages, since my last post. Apart from the obligatory superman post a few weeks ago nothing much has been happening on the blog.

As of now, I am preparing a portfolio so as to apply for a diploma project. Wish me luck :D

And yes I promise a dedicated response to the blog soon, once things are sorted out.

Till then these images from an age old shoot for a fellow Textile Designer/Friend should do.

Superman: The Poster

Well I had promised a T-shirt here, but turns out it looks better as a poster. Like I said earlier, it revolved around the concept of how superman could endorse solar energy. The type is constructed by using the dot grid as a baseline. The idea was to make it look like the Vegas lights which act like pixels to create various images. Here is the higher resolution of the poster. Feel free to download and play around.
